Carson and Maggie

Reservations for Two is a work of fiction, but the characters were so real!! Maggie was married for many years to a pastor, now she's alone and has just retired. She went back to where she and her late husband spent their honeymoon to remember and to start a new life. She meets Carson, who is also alone. This is their story, but it's so much more!!

I know Maggie's daughter, seriously, I work with her. She has struggled with her mom's new love, as does Maggie's daughter in Reservations for Two. I've sat with my friend and listened to her talk about her dad and how much she misses him and I hear anger at her mom's new love, I've helped dry her tears.

Carson's daughter, Maggie's daughter and son, the grandchildren, they all play a part in Maggie and Carson's story. This is a romance, but it's also a story about healing, family and friends. I loved it!

By the last page I was in tears, because I didn't want the book to end! I didn't want to say goodbye to Maggie, Carson and their families and friends. Anne, any chance of a series based around the inn?

This is a book about 2 people in their 60's that find love again after their spouses have passed away. I loved reading this book. It is easy to read because there isn't any melodrama, explicit sex, or violence. You know the people in this book, from the nosey inn keeper Joann to all of the grandchildren that obviously love their grandparents. Maybe I liked this book so much because I identify with Maggie since I am in the same age group. But it is more than that. If you like to read about how God does work, even if you don't see it all of the time then this book is for you. It doesn't preach religion so much as it shows you how real people of faith live their daily lives. We should all have the spunk of Maggie!! Carson is a hoot, you will fall in love with him as Maggie did. This book had all 3 of the components that I look for in a book...made me think, laugh, and shed a few tears. I loved every word and did not want this book to end. I hope you feel the same way when you read it.

Nice to read about older folks for a change!

This was a great story, easy to read & enjoy, except for the editing errors. I proof for other authors so the errors stand out glaringly to me, but because I proof, I am able to see what conversation should be attributed to which character. I have found this to be consistent with e-books and that is sad.

I loved this book

I must admit I almost didn't buy this book. I really don't like books that cost $8.99. I buy over $100 worth of kindle books a month so I like good value for my money. Well let me tell you this book is well worth the money.. it is worth twice the price!!! I loved how this book took you along with Lucas as he discovered how to be a true Alpha Werewolf's dominent. Then when you were least expecting it showed how they bonded and fell in love. Noah was so strong and forceful, yet fell belly up to Lucas in all things. It was quite a trip before they became mates and lovers... This book has 6200 locations so it really gives you back story into werewolves, it all came together so perfectly. This has become my new favorite M/M romance. I usally don't care much for military books ,but Kendall McKenna has changed my mind. I will be reading all her books now!

Werewolf and military culture clash

I have always loved stories where two people of different cultures try to work together and understand each other. In this case the two cultures are the military culture and the werewolf culture.

Lieutenant Lucas is assigned Sergeant Noah who is a True Alpha. The military culture is very believable with the realistic lingo and competent and incompetent leadership to deal with. Lucas is unfamiliar with werewolves in general and True Aphas are rare enough that there is very little public knowledge about them. Lucas does not get the required training on working with werewolves but does get some good pointers and his normal style of doing marches with the men vs riding along in a Hummer build respect in the werewolves.

Because Noah is a natural leader Lucas put him in the position of Team Lead. This puts them in a partnership leading their men. But partnership involves more than he expects with a werewolf. He needs to learn how body language, touch and sex are necessary parts of relating to a werewolf. He doesn't want to take advantage of his position as a leader over a subordination but at the same time Noah needs him to be dominant in their relationship. And for Noah that dominance includes a sex.

Lucas finds himself in a role as Dominant to a True Alpha which is a rare and legendary bond. He doesn't know half of what it means. And is surprised by the changes in how people treat him and their new expectations of him.

Lucas is a good leader and he feels it is his job to take care of his men. The tension of being in battle situations and the tension of trying to figure out what a True Alpha needs add to the intensity of the story.

Very nice world building and believable characters. Nice length at 6369 kindle locations. There is a hint that a side character will get his own book and I look forward to it

M/M, Shifters, Military Men = Hell Yeah!

Really good shifter novel with some things that are a constant, an alpha, pack bonding, shift and run at full moon etc but some other things unique to this writer's world - war zone shifts to take out insurgents, pressure shifts, heightened smell used as a combat add-on, a True Alpha that submits to a human, and more.

Strong writing and an interesting premise. Good use of military jargon, nice use of wolf shifters, strong men, well-rationed eroticism and interesting world building all add to a rivetting read. The use of first person perspective worked well as you got to see how Lucas developed feelings, his role as a conduit between shifters and the Marines, why he might be unsure of Noah's feelings - was it the shift needs, or was it more? Nice book length to get you into the series and the development of the characters. Although an intitial attraction is there there are no instant declarations of love, rather a build as one of the characters learns about being a human Dominant of a Werewolf Alpha, fitting into his role in the pack, and how that affected his role in the Marines. Lucas also had to deal with issues as an officer with an NCO which went against standard training, but standard training's different when there's Werewolves in your command.

I found this to be a real epage turner. I can't wait for more in the series. I really enjoyed The Strength of the Pack. A mighty fine read!

Gruesome & grisly, shudder-filled & TERRIFIC!!!

This is one terrific Megapack. It's exactly as the publisher describes it, so there should be no unpleasant surprises (though it does contain many PLEASANT ones). Everyone knows in advance not to expect it to contain so-called "great" works of literature, nor should anyone take umbrage at the level of political incorrectness; you were forewarned.

What IS surprising, however, is just how well-written many of these lurid works actually are. These guys sure knew how to tell a story! Despite being paid-by-the-word in a profession where quantity often trumped quality, many pulp authors proved to be talented and creative wordsmiths who were particularly adept at masterfully manipulating the English language to create thrilling tales--all the while tallying and, whenever possible, increasing their word count to boost their profits (which is why colorful, descriptive adjectives abound). Such padding could easily yield inferior results (and very often did), but in the hands of a skillful writer, a truly fanciful, entertaining and well-constructed story could still emerge--as many of the authors in this delectable collection of grisly tales so vividly demonstrate.

Named for the inexpensive, low-grade, wood-pulp paper on which they were printed in the magazines that originally published them, these 25 pulp pieces are particularly remarkable inasmuch as the compilers of this collection deliberately sought tales with outrageously provocative titles. A great title, of course, is no guarantee the story to which it is attached will be equally as good (and oftentimes a powerful title was deliberately created to disguise an otherwise weak tale), but in the case of this Megapack, most of the stories really ARE equal to their titillating titles. It should also be noted that this set contains no pastiches by modern-day, pulp-author wannabes. There are no counterfeits here; these are all the real thing, the bulk of them having been written in the 1930's.

I thoroughly enjoyed this bargain-priced collection featuring more than a few stories being sold individually in the Kindle Store for the same price (or more!) as this entire set. This is definitely one Megapack that should make any connoisseur of pulp fiction squirm with terror and delight. (And if you're not already a fan, it might just make you one.)

Freakishly Lovely....Needed a Shower After Bingeing on these Twisted Gems

This was a great deal of fun, but take the publisher's warning to heart -- Not Politically Correct!

The formatting is fine...didn't notice any typos or textual problems of any kind.

The stories themselves are funny, twisted, and repulsive in turn. All are worth the time of the reader. I would remember that you don't sit down, as I did, and read all the stories back to back. Better to be ready something else at the same time and maybe read one story and then take a break.

FYI, these stories were meant to titillate and disturb...the erotic nature of the stories are now very dated, as is the race and gender relations...which is the kindest way possible to say that these stories will make the blood of some boil...those looking for cultural justice do not buy this book.

Those looking for a window on the psyche of a vanished culture would do well to look at this book. Those looking for a dirty little secret might find this book interesting too.

However, do not binge on the stories...one at a time with other reading material is the way to go.

Recommended for aficionados of the Other, the Bizzare, and the downright weird.

The bad, and the not so bad, and the awful

I went into this with an open mind, and with all the posted warnings acknowledged. The first two stories were kind of lame, and then the third (Fiances For the Devil's Daughter) - holy cats, was that awful! I used to read Laurell K Hamilton, so it's not like I was new to that level of violence, but after the first two I suppose I grew complacent. I skimmed through the rest of the book, just hitting the main jist of each story, slowing down when something caught my eye, but there didn't seem to be anything that approached that level again. The rest is sort of blah, blah blah, ape-men, blah, blah, girl is kidnapped, blah blah, oh, she escapes, blah, blah, swamp creature, blah, blah, oh, I guess it wasn't, blah blah.... The mermaid story is just bizarre. Others went on, and on, and on, and I wanted to kill the characters myself just to make it stop.

There were two or three that looked interesting enough to slow down for, and they were the only reason this book gets a three start. Tong Torture, The Ray of Madness, The Corpse on the Grating. And there was one about New York being taken out by a tidal wave that wasn't too horrible - hey, it could happen. About the only other positive for this book is that the writers' grammer, sentence structure, and punctuation is excellent (unlike so many modern writers), even if their subject matter leaves much to be desired.
