Second Chances

This book is one of those about second chances and true love. It also is about getting closure from the past and moving on.

Kat never expected to see Bryan again. And she had pretty much convinced herself that she was over him. But that all changes when she finds herself being paired up with him for a business class she is taking to get her MBA. See, he broke her heart 5 years ago when she was an innocent, starry-eyed 17 year old who fell in love with her brother's best friend. And really he did it with no explanation.

I was honestly a little ticked off at Kat for most of this book. How can you easily fall under the spell of someone who crushed your innocent heart so many years ago? And right after you declare you love him no less?! It helped when I thought back to all those many years ago when I had a first love and how I might have acted should I ever have found myself in Kat's shoes.

But only a little!

There were many times I wanted to slap her smart and strangle Bryan's neck for treating her so horribly. Although the book had its frustrating elements, there were many more that were just flat out sweet. And steamy too! Two words...phone sex! 'Nuff said!

I loved how Kat was a strong independent young woman! Well, except when it came to Bryan but I will forgive her for that. She is family oriented which was a nice touch. I believe the whole story was very well rounded and gave us a bit of everything I personally look for in a book.

It was a quick read for me (read in one afternoon). I would highly recommend this one to anyone who is looking for..

Caught Up in Us by: Lauren Blakely

I loved this book sooo much! I was not 100% sure what to expect when I started, especially since this was Lauren Blakely's first book, and it can be questionable how the first one goes, especially when they are self-published, but I totally loved it. I might be gushing a bit, but I cannot really help. It really was that good!

Kat Harper designs a jewelry lined called My Favorite Mistakes. Her first inspiration was Bryan, her first love who broke her heart. She wanted to go all Taylor Swift on him, but all she knows how to do is design jewelry, so that is what she does. I love the concept of commemorating "the road not taken" through the charms. That should really be a thing.

Anyway, Kat is a grad student at NYU, where Bryan also attended, and one of her classes is a mentorship program. A NYU graduate who runs a business mentors one of the students. Kat ends of being partnered with Bryan, and things get interesting.

I do not want to go too much into the story because I do not want to give anything else away, but I will say that Bryan is pretty much perfect. He has the whole sexy businessman thing going, which I personally really like, but he also has a creative side which is super hot. The business he runs makes cufflinks, tie clips and money holders out of recycled parts. Cool right? This also draws a parallel to Kat's charms which is why their partnership makes sense. Anyway, I really, REALLY liked Bryan and want to pull him out of the book and keep him. In fact, I usually do not highlight on my Kindle when I read, but I loved this Bryan quote and had to share it:

"He does care for her... He always cared for her. He always loved her. He's madly in love with her. She's his Love, Actually. She's his Casablanca. I loved this book. Kat and Bryan were perfect for the other. I knew why Bryan left five years before I read the book because the description led to it. I loved the book so much and how Kat and Bryan meshed together. I know she did a book on Reeve and is doing one on Jill but I want one for Kat's brother.

Another home run by GLH Publishing.

This is a fantastic edition of some of Spurgeon's gems. I have all these in hard copy but having this on Kindle is great. Of course you will find these works in other Kindle editions but I had to write this review to give special recognition to 'GLH Publishing' for doing a superb job. The active TOC is a must for any work of this size.

My presumption to comment on the contents would be ridiculous. Anyone familiar with Spurgeon knows that his writings are top notch. Whether you agree with Spurgeon's theology or not you HAVE TO read his works for your opinions to be taken seriously.

A quick word to those who would desist from reading Spurgeon because they are not Christians. Be you a Muslim, or a Hindu, or a Zoroastrian, or a Buddhist, or a Atheist, or a Agnostic; you are sure to ennoble yourself. Spurgeon's writing style, besides being pertinent is great literature. Don't pass this up. Very highly recommended.

Pretty Good - two formatting issues.

Overall, it's looking pretty good. There are two formatting issues I'm running into on the Kindle, however - In the active table of contents, each book is titled "Book", which makes it sort of hard to know which book I'm looking for! Also, in Morning and Evening, if you advance page by page, you'll stay with the "morning" or "evening" formatting, without going back and forth chronologically. It'd be nice if they'd fix that. :)

Romance intervwoven with history

After reading about Charles Cabot's friend Major Lord David Trent, in Quiet Meg, I was so happy to find that Sherry Ferguson was going to delight us with the future of Major Lord David Trent in romance and war. He has his hand's full when he finds he is to wed Wilhelmina "Billie", because Billie has her own ideas about marriage.
This is Sherry Ferguson first venture into history, the Battle of Waterloo. Her account is so well researched and brought to the reader in a very comprehendable manner. Lord David and Billie are such wonderful characters. I enjoyed them so much!

This is a tale of love and war. It details the prelude and the most important confrontation of the battle of Waterloo while following the love story of one of the British officers. In some ways this is a traditional regency romance and yet it is also historical fiction in the way that it describes the battle and the aftermath. A very good book, but reader beware, this book is not the light, frivolous repast that many others are. This book has substance above and beyond the romance and is much better for it in my opinion. Very highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
