Cookie-cutter

Pros: Story flow, pacing, dialogue, decent erotica scenes, and a crash course on BDSM.
Cons: Very poor technical writing, cookie-cutter characters, and one of the most overused plots in existence.
(A bookish, introvert catches the eye of the mysterious, troubled, rich (why are they always rich!?), older man.)
In addition, *SPOILER* why did there have to be a rape sequence? The absolute brutalization of the protagonist was, in a word, excessive. Perhaps it is my preference for subtly, or perhaps I have an aversion to intense violence. Whatever it was, I found myself flipping through the pages to the end of that scene. From one author to another, that sequence contributed nothing to the story as a whole. It reminded me of those terrible, horror films that have a rape sequence strictly for the shock value. I can understand having the protagonist be rigorously tortured, but the gang rape should not have been included. It hurt the story.

August Clearwing states erotica is porn with a story. Well this book had a story alright! A woman who admits to a fantasy most would consider psychotic. A man who recognizes what the fantasy means about the visualizer. That one shouldn't judge on appearances and that there is a capacity for violence in all. The writing in this book kept me invested in the characters until I finally finished. The trials and tribulations of this couple, were to say the least grasping. And boy was I not only grabbed, I was pulled in. My reviews are short but to the point because I don't like spoilers, so I leave you with this, this writer weaves a tale that plays like a movie in my head! The visualization at times made me stop, put down my tablet and step away to digest what I'd just read. If you're into kink, read this. If you're into romance read this.

WARNING: This does not just have BDSM sex scenes which I find erotic, but also *SPOILER* a torture and rape scence which was disgusting.
The first good chunk of this book is a BDSM love story. Then it takes a turn I was not expecting. I feel like the author should have wrote a gripping twist without it being a graphic gang rape because I was really into the story before that happened. Also I didn't feel like Noah sympathized with Piper as much as he should. I guess I wanted more of his feelings to come through.
I am a huge fan of books on the darker side. The writing has to be superb to pull off taboo subjects like kidnapping and rape.
Overall this is a hard book for me to rate even after a few days after finishing. I think I was so stunned and flabbergasted from the rape scene it's hard to remember the parts of the book I did love.
